Accessible public transport in Singapore: wheelchair, stroller and mobility tips
How to plan a step-free public transport journey in Singapore by MRT and bus, what size and weight limits apply to wheelchairs, scooters and strollers, and what help is available at stations and bus stops.
All public buses and trains in Singapore are wheelchair accessible. The MRT, LRT and public buses are designed to take open strollers and personal mobility aids (PMAs), such as wheelchairs and mobility scooters. This guide explains what to check before you travel.
Check your wheelchair, scooter or stroller
You can bring an open stroller or a PMA on public transport if it is within these limits:
- Weight, including the user: 300 kg or less
- Length: 120 cm or less
- Width: 70 cm or less
- Height, from the floor to the top of the PMA or the user's head when seated, whichever is higher: 150 cm or less
Bicycles, power-assisted bicycles and personal mobility devices (PMDs) are also allowed. Battery-powered ones must be switched off. When folded, a PMD must be no larger than 120 cm long, 70 cm wide and 40 cm high.
Plan a step-free journey
Use the route planner to find a route. Choose Bus only if you prefer buses. Check the stations and bus stops on your route before you leave.
On buses
- Most bus stops are barrier-free. About 98% of bus stops are, and a small number have site constraints.
- Look for the wheelchair logo on the bus stop pole. You can also check the MyTransport app for iOS or Android before you travel.
- If a bus is crowded or its wheelchair space is occupied, you may need to fold and carry your stroller. If you use a PMA, you may need to wait for the next bus.
On trains
- Barrier-free access routes are available at all train stations.
- Rubber fillers are installed where possible to close the gap between the platform and the train.
- For help, approach a station staff member, a service ambassador, or a Passenger Service Centre.
Before you travel
Check service changes and disruptions with the operator before you leave.
